Important websites for living in the Netherlands

Know which Dutch website handles which task. This directory explains the purpose of each service, when you are likely to use it and where to start.

Use the official domain. Government services rarely need an intermediary. Check the address before entering DigiD, payment, identity or residence information.

Identity, residence and government messages

Government.nl

English-language explanations of Dutch laws, public services and national procedures. Use it to understand the rule before moving to the responsible agency.

IND

Immigration and Naturalisation Service. Residence permits, MVV, family routes, work residence, permanent residence, naturalisation and application status.

DigiD

Your digital identity for signing in to Dutch public services. Apply after receiving a BSN and ensure your BRP address is correct for activation mail.

MijnOverheid

Your personal government portal and Berichtenbox for official digital correspondence. Activate notifications so important messages are not missed.

Your municipality

BRP registration, BSN issuance, address changes, civil records, parking and many local services. Procedures and appointment systems differ by municipality.

Tax, benefits, work and education

Belastingdienst

Dutch Tax Administration. Income tax, payroll tax, tax returns and the 30% expat scheme. Use Mijn Belastingdienst for personal tax matters.

Dienst Toeslagen

Healthcare, childcare and housing benefits. Eligibility depends on income, household, residence status and the specific benefit.

DUO

Education, student finance, diploma recognition information and civic-integration administration and exams.

SVB

Social Insurance Bank. Child benefit, AOW pension and assessments concerning Dutch social-insurance coverage.

UWV

Employee Insurance Agency. Unemployment, sickness and incapacity benefits plus employment services for eligible residents.

Health, driving and transport

CAK

RDW

Vehicle and driving-licence authority. Licence exchange, vehicle registration, inspections and ownership information.

OVpay

Official information for checking in and out with an OV-pas or supported contactless payment card and correcting travel records.

9292

Nationwide public-transport journey planner combining train, bus, tram, metro and ferry information.

Police Netherlands

Non-emergency police information and reporting options. Call 112 for immediate danger; use 0900-8844 for non-emergency police assistance in the Netherlands.
