Registering in Delft after moving from abroad
Delft residents moving from abroad for a long stay should use the municipality’s registration-from-abroad process rather than the domestic moving form.
Delft registration process
Use resident registration when you will live in the Netherlands for more than four months and your Dutch address is in Delft. Immigration permission and municipality registration are separate checks.
Open the official Delft page and follow the current appointment instructions. Book early once the address and arrival date are firm.
Plan for every person who is moving and being registered to attend when the municipality requires personal appearance. The appointment confirmation is decisive.
The municipality records the resident in the BRP and allocates or confirms the BSN. Processing can depend on identity, address and foreign-document checks.
Documents to prepare before the appointment
- A valid passport or accepted identity document for each person.
- Proof of the Delft address, such as a rental agreement, purchase deed or completed consent evidence.
- Residence permit, MVV, IND decision, sticker or other lawful-residence evidence where applicable.
- Original birth, marriage, divorce, adoption, custody or death certificates that are relevant to the BRP record.
- Legalisation, apostille and sworn translation where the issuing country or document language requires it.
- Proof of deregistration when moving from parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands if the municipality requests it.
- The appointment confirmation and any municipality-specific form.
Bring valid identity, proof of the Delft address, lawful-residence evidence where applicable and original civil-status documents. Check translation, apostille and legalisation rules before departure.
What to do after registration
Check the spelling of names, dates, nationality, address and family relationships on the confirmation. Store the BSN securely. Once the BSN and Dutch address are active, the next common actions are DigiD, Dutch health-insurance assessment, payroll or study administration, a bank account and GP registration.
A BSN is an identification number. It does not by itself prove lawful residence, create a right to work or replace an IND residence document.

- Booking a domestic move instead of registration from abroad.
- Assuming a temporary accommodation address is automatically registrable.
- Bringing scans when the municipality requests originals.
- Forgetting that a partner or child may need to attend.
