For a stay longer than four months, visit an Amsterdam City Office within five days after arrival. Standard first registration is walk-in at city offices; Weesp requires an appointment.

Amsterdam-specific routes

Eligible EU employees and highly skilled migrants can use IN Amsterdam. Complete its online form first, then call to schedule the appointment.

Students must follow Amsterdam's student pre-registration route before visiting a City Office.

Short stay and RNI

RNI is for a stay under four months. Amsterdam accepts RNI appointments only for people with a European passport or identity card. Other passport holders are directed to Breda or Venlo.

Amsterdam states that the BSN is issued immediately at a completed RNI appointment.

Address evidence is decisive

A valid rental agreement, ownership proof or the municipality's consent route is normally required. A landlord's informal “no registration” condition does not replace the municipality's assessment.
